“There are no words that can tell the hidden spirit of the wilderness, that can reveal its mystery, its melancholy, and its charm.” – President Theodore Roosevelt
Just about every year growing up we made a trip to the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg, TN. I have many fond memories from there, including more recent ones from a 2014 cousins reunion. So saddened to hear of the fire devastation that has swept through the area. If you’d like to help – there are a few links below. If you’ve never been, I hope you get there one day – the Smoky Mountains are one of the most majestic and beautiful places in America.
(The images below I took during my last visit in 2014. The mountains and their (cloud) smoke, and my cousin in the forest.)
- American Red Cross – www.RedCross.org/donate
- Dollywood Foundation – http://dollywoodfoundation.org/ (Dolly Parton is donating $1000 to each family effected by the fires for 6 months – if we didn’t lover her enough already!)
- The Humane Society of TN Valley – https://www.youcaring.com/seviercountyhumanesociety-702875 (Disaster Animal Rescue Teams are government funded, but the Humane Societies will be caring for a lot of animals brought into their doors)
- And many more local organizations listed HERE – including the Fee/Hedrick Entertainment Group which operates several Sevier County Theaters. They are feeding fire fighters and other first responders, and are donating $100K to firefighters.
